Rolex “Wempe Full-Set” Sea-Dweller

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a rare Rolex Seadweller, circa 1980, in spectacular condition. The Sea-Dweller was designed for diving under extreme depths, and were thus fitted with a helium escape valve on the left-hand side of the case, which was used to release pressure as it built up under water.  Importantly, this example comes complete with its original box and papers, sold by the famous retailer, Wempe.  The set includes its original Rolex box, “punched” Warranty Certificate, outer Wempe paper sleeve, and Rolex Oyster booklet.

This example is in incredible vintage condition, and likely sat as a “safe queen” most of its life.  The case is unpolished and razor sharp, with original beveled edges, and was so lightly worn that the caseback even still shows all of the original black enamel in the engravings.  The dial is in excellent condition, with no wear, marks, etc.  The original tritium lume is still present on both hands and dial, aged to a striking yellow color.  The insert is original and period correct for this reference, with virtually no wear, and matching tritium pearl.  The watch comes fitted on an original Rolex Oyster flip-lock 93150/585 bracelet, with 12 full links and no stretch.

This is the definition of “collector’s grade”, and watches in such condition and completeness have become exceptionally difficult to find!
