Rolex “Tropical Meters First Red” Submariner

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is an excellent example of the popular Rolex “Red Sub” Submariner, Reference 1680. Bearing a serial of 2.2 million, this watch dates the watch to 1968, and has an “MK2” and “Meters First” dial. Further, the dial on this particular example has aged to a brown or “tropical” color.

The present example is in excellent condition. The case shows thick and even lugs, with original beveled edges still visible, and appears lightly polished in the past. The dial is mint, with no flaws, marks or chips, with an evenly aged brown dial, visible in any light (indoors or outdoors). The original tritium lume is still present in both hands and dial, aged to a nice yellow color. The bezel insert is an original and period correct “Long 5”, and has aged to a lovely navy blue color.

The watch comes fitted on a Rolex folded-link 7836 bracelet, with 258 endlinks, and dates to 1970. The bracelet has 12 full links and light stretch.
