Rolex “NOS Full-Set” Day-Date

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a world-class Rolex Day-Date, Ref. 18038, which was transitional from the Reference 1803, introducing the “single quick-set” function, which allows the owner to quickly just the date via the crown.  This example dates to 1982, and is a true time-capsule, seemingly unworn/unused, and complete with its original box and papers, including the original Rolex “punched” Warranty Certificate, informational booklets, and original sales receipt, dating the original sale to 1985, and hangtag (with serial number printed).

The condition of this Rolex Day-Date is exceptional, the best we’ve ever seen.  The case is unpolished, with virtually no wear, and the right side of the case has aged a rich and dark patina, giving it a truly unique appearance (similar to the Rolex Triple-Date Chronograph, Ref. 6062, recently sold by Christies, nicknamed the “Dark Star”).  The champagne dial is perfect, with not a defect to be found.  Likewise, the original tritium lume is present in both dial and hands, aged to a gorgeous yellow, with puffy and full plots.  The caseback still retains its original sticker, unremoved.

To top it off, the watch remains on its original hidden-clasp 18kt Rolex Swiss bracelet, stiff and basically unworn, also developing a lovely and rich patina, and with no stretch.

This is a true “collector’s grade” watch and set, and finding one like this will likely be impossible!
