Rolex “Gilt” GMT-Master

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is an exceptional example of a Rolex GMT-Master with a glossy gilt dial, circa 1965 (1.3m serial), possibly the nicest gilt-dial GMT we have ever offered for sale.  This example is the last gilt dial Rolex produced before transitioning to the matte dial in/around 1967.  The gilt dials are adorned for their gold inlay, and glossy/mirror-like lacquer finish.

The present Rolex GMT-Master is in amazing condition.  The case is unpolished, with original factory bevels visible and prevalent – maybe the nicest case we have ever seen on an early GMT.  The dial is incredible – super glossy, with a true factory mirror-like finish, and no major wear, chips, or cracks to the lacquer.  The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow/orange color; the hour and minute have been professionally color and glow matched by LA Watch Works in California. The original and period-correct “Pepsi” bezel insert is in great condition, with a very unique look, aged to a light faded blue and orange color.

The watch comes equipped on its original Rolex rivet 7206 bracelet, with 80 endlinks, and is dated to 1965.  The bracelet has 11 full links and almost no stretch.
