Rolex “Full-Set 18078 Wood-Dial” Day-Date

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is an uncommon Rolex Day-Date, Ref. 18078, which was transitional from the Reference 1803, introducing the “single quick-set” function, which allows the owner to quickly just the date via the crown.  This example dates to 1982, and is fitted with a rare “wood” dial.  Further, this watch comes complete as a full-set, maintaining its original Rolex “Presidential” box (missing inner cushion) and “punched” Guarantee Certificate, originally sold in the Bahamas in 1987.

The condition of this Rolex Day-Date is excellent.  The case is unpolished and sharp, with light wear from use. The dial is in great condition, with no cracks to the lacquered finish of the wood dial.

The watch comes on its a hidden-clasp 18kt Rolex Swiss bracelet, with light stretch, and 5 removable screws, fitting an approximate 7″ wrist.  Please Note: the reference 18078 was made with a “bark”-finish bezel and bracelet; the present example features a bark bezel, but normal, non-bark bracelet.  Presumably, the customer specially requested the Rolex dealer change the bracelet, as the date code to the bracelet matches the watch, and was seemingly born with the watch when it left the store in 1987.
