Rolex “Double Red 1665” Sea-Dweller

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a rare Rolex “Double Red” Seadweller, circa 1974.  This example has a “Mark III” (MK3) dial. These watches were designed for diving under extreme depths, and were thus fitted with a helium escape valve on the left-hand side of the case, which was used to release pressure as it built up under water.  The earliest versions of these watches featured what is referred to as a “Double Red” dial, which features the first two lines of text in red on the lower portion of the dial, which would later be changed to white by Rolex.

This example is in great vintage condition.  The case has been polished in the past, with sharp and well-definsed bevels in the lugs. The dial is perfect, with no wear, marks, scratches, etc.  The original tritium lume is still present on both hands and dial, aged to a nice light yellow color.  The watch comes fitted on an original Rolex Oyster flip-lock 93150/593 bracelet, with 11 full links and almost no stretch.
