Rolex “6262 Paul Newman” Daytona

SOLD

Description

Offered here is a lovely example of Rolex Daytona, Ref. 6262, circa 1970, fitted with an exotic dial, nicknamed the “Paul Newman” Daytona, due to the fact that the famous actor favored wearing the Rolex Daytona with the exotic dial, and can be seen in many photographs wearing the watch.  The reference 6262 is one of the rarest of all the Paul Newman (or Daytona in general) variants, produced for a very short period of time, and one of the only references to feature a “two-color” dial, showing on black and white colors, with no red outer track as commonly seen on the majority of exotic Daytona dials.

The condition of this “Paul Newman” Daytona is excellent. The case has been previously polished, but lightly, with thick and even lugs, and shows the remnants of the original caseback sticker on the back. The dial is in beautiful condition, with no major wear or scratches, save for one minuscule mark under the “R” in Cosmograph, barely visible. The original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, with extremely beautiful and puffy, yellow plots, and no visible loss whatsoever.

The watch comes on a Rolex Swiss rivet bracelet with 60 endlinks, dating to 1969.
