Rolex “2508” Chronograph

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a stunning and rare 18kt yellow gold Rolex chronograph, the reference 2508, circa 1940s.  This particular 2508 is a “first generation” example, denoted by its larger, 37mm case size and use of oval pushers, which was later replaced by a smaller, 35mm case with square button pushers.  Further, this example features a sector-snail dial, with both telemeter and tachymetre scales, accented with applied numerals.  This Rolex chronograph is in good vintage condition.  The case has been previously polished, but lightly, with thick and even lugs.  The original dial shows light aging/wear, consistent with the aging of these dials (and the fact that they were not waterproof cases). Finally, it is fitted on a solid gold beads-of-rice style bracelet – while not a Rolex bracelet, it fits the watch very well aesthetically.
