Blancpain “Fifty Fathoms Ceramized Titanium” Bathyscaphe

SOLD

Description

Offered here is a pretty special watch that most people probably do not even know exists – the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe…but this is not your average Bathyscaphe, by any means.  This model debuted in 2013, and Blancpain offered the reference in two different options: brushed satin stainless steel, or for $1,500 more, ceramized titanium.  According to the website Professional Watches, “If you are wondering what ceramized titanium is, here is a brief explanation from Blancpain. Basically, a titanium case is put in a chemical bath with 600 watts of electrical current. This causes the titanium to oxidize (mainly on the surface of the titanium, but also partially on the rest of the case). Once the titanium is oxidized, it becomes ceramized titanium.”

Allegedly, because this compound was so difficult and costly to make, Blancpain abandoned this option shortly into the first run of production, and an estimated only 50 pieces were delivered to stores in this new ceramized titanium.

This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms remains in excellent condition, clearly barely used since being sold in December of 2013, with absolutely no wear, in like new condition.  The watch comes complete with its original Blancpain box, Warranty Card, and accompanying paperwork.

A truly neat piece of Blancpain’s history, and a difficult watch to track down if you know what you are looking for!
