Up for grabs is a rare Rolex Cosmograph chronograph, nicknamed the “Pre-Daytona”, due to its production before the famous Daytona line. The Rolex Cosmograph, Reference 6238, was produced during the 1960s, with estimated production between 1962 and 1968; Rolex produced an estimated 2,000-2,500 examples, with varying configurations, putting production numbers much lower than that of its later Daytona counterpart. This particular example dates to 1962.
This Rolex Cosmograph is in great vintage condition. The case has been polished in the past, but still has thick lugs. The silver sunburst dial is beautiful, with no flaws. The original tritium lume is present in both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow color, with only partial loss to the 2 and 9 o’clock plots. The watch comes fitted on a later Rolex rivet 7205/57 bracelet, dated to 1970, and has 11 full links and light stretch.
